A Dog’s day for Learning and Appreciation
February 25 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm PST
Our animal friends, for many of us, are like family, and for some of us they provided an amazing amount of support through COVID for us and for our families. Invite your animal friends to join us for an event with a dog behaviorist for some learning and an evening of sharing our stories about how our pets make our lives better with our fellow EO members.
The event will begin with Meryl Cohen, trainer and owner of Bay Area Balanced Dog Training, who will provide us with some pointers on how to better read our dog’s behavior. She will then observe a few of our dogs that perhaps display some behaviors that you find perplexing or just want to have a better understanding of, and give us some impressions on what they are communicating. The event will then focus on our members and their pets when a few of us will have the opportunity to share our pets and pet stories.
Meryl has been training dogs for 8 years. She has her B.S. in Animal Science from Cal Poly State University San Luis Obispo where her interest in learning theory and behavior began. She also has a long background training and showing horses. It was in college she got her first two personal dogs, both rescues, and she began to develop an affinity for training. After college, she became the on-staff trainer for The Humane Society for Greater Savannah, GA and started her private training business there before coming home to the Bay Area. Meryl contracted for another Bay Area company for 1.5 years before leaving to start her own business in 2019. She currently has a senior pit bull and a cane corso puppy that she bred. Meryl competes in numerous dog sports focusing primarily on protection sports (tracking, obedience, and protection), as well as dock diving, AKC Fast Cat, and barn hunt.
